The U.S. dollar index (DXY) continued to fall during the Asian session, continuing the weak performance of the previous trading day. The index has now fallen below the 99.00 mark, falling for the second consecutive day.
The market generally believes that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates by 25 basis points in October and December respectively to deal with the risks of economic slowdown and weak labor market.
According to market surveys, the probability of the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates twice this year has exceeded 90%, which has significantly reduced the safe-haven appeal of the US dollar.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate failed to pass a temporary funding bill proposed by the Republican Party. The government shutdown has entered its third week with no sign of resolution.
The release of some economic data has been postponed, leaving the market lacking guidance. Investors are worried that if the shutdown continues, it will put dual pressure on economic growth and fiscal spending, further weakening the dollar.
A Wall Street economist pointed out: "The extension of the government shutdown means increased uncertainty about fiscal policy, and the Federal Reserve may be forced to accelerate the pace of easing."
Market risk sentiment is still affected by trade concerns. U.S. President Trump has threatened to end trade with major Asian countries in edible oils and agricultural products in response to the country's decision to suspend purchases of U.S.-produced soybeans.
In addition, the Asian giant announced new special port fees on U.S. ships, raising concerns about trade relations.
Judging from the daily chart of the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY), the price has shown a significant correction after oscillating at high levels for several consecutive days. The index has now fallen below the 20-day moving average and is approaching support at the 50-day moving average (about 98.80).
If it falls below this range, it may trigger furtherStep down, the target points to the 98.60 to 98.20 area. On the contrary, if the dollar can regain 99.30 and stand above 99.60, it is expected to resume its upward trend.
